Cross Country Race in Japan

I ran a 3K cross country race in Yogoshiyama Park on Kodomo No Hi (May 5) 2000. It was billed as "Let's Run, Let's Joy!" All the men over 50 were limited to 3K even though there were also 5K races for younger age groups. I ran a 14:xx and finished tied for last among the men. Those guys were fast.

General view of the meet People milling about enjoying the festivities Kids mugging for the camera - they knew how to say Herro - I could just smile like a dork Registration tent Helpers at the registration tent
Foreground: finish line chutes; background: about to start another race Before the race - I had run 25 minutes to warm up My daughter posing me for a pre-race photo Contemplating the race to come Go-hyaku-go and Go-hyaku-roku
What did they all think about this tall stranger? Toeing the start line The thundering herd making a mad dash across the field A buncha short Japanese runners and a tall American Heading toward the finish line
I was trying to catch the runner ahead of me I'm pretty sure he didn't know I was there Galumphing to the finish, trying to catch up. Taken by my daughter. He slowed to click his watch - I leaned and maybe it was a dead heat Wandering about in the finish area - I had no clue what I was supposed to do
I think there were forms to fill out. The building in the background is Yogoshiyama Park Headquarters Pretty much played out The start line before another age group took off A hill similar to the one we ran up and back down
