Located on the Carquinez Strait and Suisun Bay, Benicia is home to the third State Capitol building, although only briefly hosting the California legislature, a federal arsenal in the 1850-1860's period,an early Episcopal church,the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet(mothball) and many early California buildings of historic consequence.The port of Benicia serves the local refinery(Valero) and the imported auto discharge enter. Elegant buildings were officers' quarters in the arsenal's heyday. Vallejo, an important inland California port, was the site of US naval operations and various manufacturing operations, including sugar processing.
