Pictures from Prospect.1- Nov. 1, 2008 to January 18, 2009 New Orleans, LA

Conceived as a response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Prospect1 is a biennial art show of contemporary art through out the city of New Orleans in various venues, such as museums, art galleries, and outdoor spaces in such neighborhoods as the lower 9th Ward and Treme. Hopefully, this is the first of five shows.

I am a Language Arts teacher at Harris. My students had the opportunity to visit The Mint and then take a tour of the reconstruction in the 9th Ward. The field trip had a profound impact on my students. They did a technology project which consisted of them using the pictures taken on the field trip and writing passionate reflections on what they witnessed. They not only received an appreciation for the art, but they had a deeper understanding of what an impact Katrina still has on the residents of New Orleans.
