Free Comic Book Day 2008

Slight rain and clouds did not stop the fun and free stuff at Sarge's Comics Etc Free Comic Book Day 2008.
We gave out over seventeen thousand comic books to eager fans and new readers, and smiles lit up the land!
I'll write more on the Comic Book creators and friends of Sarge's in a bit.

More to write and post later. Also, many more photos as well. Maybe YOU will be in them?

Thanks in advance to Michael Donnatello for his photos as well. He and his Children were real helps. Mike was wicked busy with his new camera. I can't wait to see his results!

Special thanks to all the Best Droogies in the world, Amanda, John, Kay, Brianna, Joe, Mark, Linda, Malinda, and lil Alice ( of course !) If I've missed any of you, just let me know. Time for sleep right now. Much more later!

Helmets off for the folks of the 501'st Consquad! Thanks to them, Star Wars comes alive in the Streets of New London each May!
Join up today!
The 501'st Connecticut Garrison: http://www.connsquad.com/

Free Comic Book Day at Sarge's Comics Etc in New London, CT was another rousing
success! We brought customers in from over 100 miles. They had heard of the
party and sales and perhaps two thousand people came to enjoy the event.

Comic book creators lined the center of the store and costumed characters walked
the isles and storefront. We are a huge store, residing in an old Kresge
department store, and on FCBD, we fill the entire space with a great respectful
throng of happy faces.

Ox Baker the bad boy wrestler was on hand signing photos and bellowing about. We
had him inside the store this year. In previous years he would be outside, but
weather was not suitable for that this year.

The Consquad detachment of the 501'st Star Wars Earth Garrison showed their
numbers in force. Some members had multiple costumes and changed throughout the
day.

Artists and Writers included Keith Champagne from DC, Chris Reilly from SLG,
Randall Ensley Award winning Sci-Fi & Fantasy illustrator, Professor William H.
Foster writer “Looking for a Face Like Mine”, Brett Swanson &
“Power Kid”, John Escabales writer “Cortez”, Keith Murphy of the Comic Artists
Guild, Andrew LoVuolo writer “The Rift”, Paul Timmons illustrator, and
caricatures by Elaine Mills.

The day was cooler and wetter than we had hoped, which we figured accounted for
fewer cosplayers than in previous years. Still over fifty characters in costume
made the rounds. Local children strutted in wearing great homemade Transformer
gear. It is Halloween in May as one mom called it!
