Kite Eating Tree ~ March 11 [16]

The Park Formerly Known as "Camp Snoopy"

The Kite-Eating Tree was a tree featured in the comic strip "Peanuts" created by Saint Paul native Charles M. Schulz. When the Mall of America opened the theme park at the center was called "Camp Snoopy" in honor of Peanuts and Charles Schultz. Charlie Brown's Kite-Eating Tree became a ride.

Unfortunately the Mall lost the rights to use the Peanuts name and characters early in 2006 and now the park is officially known as "The Park at the Mall of America." (They didn't use my suggestion which was "The Park Formerly Known as Camp Snoopy". I thought it was appropriate given that The Twin Cities is also home to "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.") While the name may be gone the Kite Eating Tree remains, though they may officially call it something else.

How about the Child Eating Tree? I apprecitate the information along with the photograph- the picture can stand by itself but the information adds a personal element and lets you feel even more connected as a viewer.

Nice job of panning and a nice explanation. Things don't change just because you call them a different name, which, apparently, is something a lot of government officials don't know.
Karen Stuebing12-Mar-2006 12:41
Love the motion blur and how you can still see the expression of exhilaration on the rider. I agree. Stay with tradition. :)
