Titan II Missile and Silo

Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota

All of the Titan missiles have been removed and destroyed, as per treaty. This missile and silo was used to train the technicians that worked on the missiles and their systems. It remains at Ellsworth AFB outside Rapid City, SD as something of a tourist attraction.

All of the former silos and other missile sites have also been destroyed, with 2 exceptions. One silo still exists as a tourist site outside Wall, South Dakota, as well as a control center as a museum.

Dear Greg ~ Ellsworth AFB never had Titan II missiles. One of your photos shows a Titan I listed as a Titan II. I worked at Rushmore Air Force Station on the Titan I warhead/reentry vehicle in 1960-62. I then transferred to Davis Monthan and worked on the Titan II warhead/reentry vehicle, 1962-65. Ellsworth only had nine Titan I silos, three per missile site, while the Minuteman sites were under construction. Mike
