日月潭 台湾地区最大的天然湖泊，又称龙湖，亦为闻名遐迩之山水佳胜。位于南投县中部鱼池乡之水社村，地处玉山山脉之北、能高瀑布之南，介於集集大山(潭之西)与水社大山(潭之东)之间。潭面辽阔，海拔约760公尺(2,495呎)，面积约900馀公顷。旧称水沙连、龙湖、水社大湖、珠潭、双潭，亦名水里社。潭中有小岛名拉鲁岛（旧名珠屿岛、光华岛），以此岛为界，潭面北半部形如日轮，南半部形似月钩，故名日月潭。潭水碧蓝无垠，青山葱翠倒映，环山抱水，形势天然。该潭除可泛舟游湖、赏心悦目外，其环湖胜景殊多，诸如涵碧楼、慈恩塔(9层塔，高约45公尺〔148呎〕，建於海拔955公尺〔3,133呎〕之青龙山上，为环湖风景区之最高点)、玄奘寺、文武庙、德化社、山地文化村及孔雀园等。

Sun Moon Lake is the largest natural lake in Taiwan as well as a tourist attraction. Situated in Yuchih, Nantou, the area around the Sun Moon Lake is home to the Thao tribe, one of aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu. The east side of the lake looks like a sun and the west side looks like a moon, hence the name.

Sun Moon Lake is located 748 meters above sea level. It is 27 meters deep and has a surface area of approximately 7.93 kmē.
