This section (Simatai) of the Great Wall of China is located 120 km (75 miles) northeast of Beijing city. It was built in 1577 when China was ruled by Ming Dynasty. The terrain in which the wall was built is extremely rough, making it difficult to build 10 feet wide wall as seen in other places. Many sections of the wall were singled sided. in contrast with double sided, and was built with locally obtained rock materials instead of manufactured bricks. It is said that most of building materials were hauled up the mountain using fleet of mountain goats. The current policy of the local government is to maintain the wall in its ruin state, giving people sense of history.

司马台长城位于北京东北密云县内，距离北京120公里，建于明朝万历五年（1577）。司马台长城构筑在陡峭峻险的悬崖峭壁之上，它依山就势，雄壮逶迤。即使是断壁残垣，也透露着一股厚重磅礴的气势。由于地势十分险峻，许多段是单边墙，称为单边长城。这里是保持明朝长城原始风貌的最佳长城地段。 当地政府的维修政策是修旧如旧。
