Using a video-light and a long exposure we took these photos of underwater caves. By doing away with strobes, the light becomes more diffused. Parts of the cave can be kept dark very selectively, such as the foreground. Other parts can be given additional illumination. Except as a shadow, no diver is visible. The 'smoke-trail' is formed by the video light when it comes directly in view of the camera. This is real team-work: I focussed on keeping the camera still, while my buddy, Edo de Jong, did all the hard work of moving around and painting the cave with light.
