20211007 0505 Eastern Screech Owl c1.jpg

Ottawa West

A close-crop image of the Screech Owl's head to illustrate the difference in size of the pupils of the eyes. The left eye pupil is noticeably smaller than the one of right eye. This is due to the left eye being in good direct light and the right eye being shadowed by the nose/beak. I therefor had to brighten or de-shadow the right eye quite a bit to hi-lite it.

Nikon D500 ,Nikkor 200-500 mm VR

I've noticed this difference in pupil size in my photos in the past. It's seems like the eyes work independently. Great photo.

What an excellent closeup of the owl, and very interesting about its eyes.
