20180719 5066 5068 American Bittern.jpg

Ottawa West

As I was observing an Osprey nest whilst standing on the side of a road that crosses a swamp, I suddenly noticed a Juvenile American Bittern in a typical erect (you can't see me) pose. I took a few quick shots; then, I noticed an adult Bittern nearby doing some stretching exercises. I took some shots of the adult too and some shots of both Bitterns in the same frame with alternately one of the Bitterns in and/or out of focus.

The above image combines two shots where the in focus image of the adult (on the left) is cloned over the out-of-focus image of it in the combined photo, thus getting both Bitters in focus.

Oh wow, you captured a bittern! That is an accomplishment! They are so shy of humans.

it seems well ensconced in the lush growth....interesting to note the environment in which some creatures thrive..
