Two images entitled "DRINKING BUDDIES?" Well, not really. See note below and also the image below.

Top Image:A male Northern Pintail and a female Mallard appear to be having a drink from the edge of the pond. Actually, they are washing the dirt off some roots that they were foraging for along the muddy shore. They would do this repeatedly, that is, find some food, then dip/rinse it and/or their beak in the water.

My favorite duck species! They are so elegant! I have several old decoys that were my Father's and my favorite is a pintail pair that I keep on the mantle. Reminds me of my Dad every day.
