I think this is a Tricolored Heron. It is bigger than The snowy egret, but The Egret constantly chased it from the small pond.

Because of my mirror-up problems with the D800, I increased the exposure compensation to better capture the dark colours. This resulted in a high ISO and the whites being blown.

Nikon D800 ,Nikkor 300mm f/4 ED-IF AF-S
1/640s f/5.6 at 420.0mm iso3200 full exif

The white on the belly is the give away for a Tr-Coloured Heron, Hank. Correct ID. Very nice composition and colour.

I am pretty sure you are right about this being a tr-colored, Hank. Good one! We are seeing them here in Florida.
