20140807-1 182, 20140807-2 174 SERIES - Grasshopper and B-t Darner .jpg

Ottawa West

Two sets of two comparison images.

Continuing some experimentation with using the 105 mm macro lens + 1.4 T.C. and comparing images taken with this combination and the D300s camera to those taken with my 80-400 VR lens and the D800 camera.

The images on the left are are taken with the D300s and macro lens + T.C.: Those on the right are closeups taken with the D800 and 80-400mm VR lens.

Since I used different cameras and since lighting conditions are not the same, one can't draw firm conclusions; however, in my opinion both setups provided reasonably good closeup images with the D800/80-400mm combo somewhat superior. The D300s/105 mm/T.C. combo is however quite a bit lighter. Also when subjects allow one to get up real close, this combo may well provide the better results. More experimentation required, perhaps using the combo of the D800 camera and the 105 mm macro lens + 1.4 T.C..

Best viewed in ORIGINAL size.

De D300 heeft 12 megapixel en de D800 36 megapixel dus de D800 laat veel meer detail zien lijkt mij. Probeer de 105 eens op de D800

Nice experiment Hank and beautiful photos
We tried the 1.4 on different lenses and never had really good results.
We use on rare occasions

I'd be happy with either one, but probably the 800 and 105 TC combo would; if the conditions are right, be the best. That new 80-400 is very sharp though. V

wow those at the right side are soo sharp...

very interesting experience but my own opinion i prefer 80/400 more sharp and clarity!

Interesting comparisons Hank! At first I thought the 80-400mm images were better; however, both camera/lens options have their advantages. :)

Thanks for showing us the comparison between the two lenses. All are great shots with lots of detail. Confirms that the 80-400 is a great lens.

Ik vind de rechtse het mooist, maar ik vraag me af of de T.C wel goed is op de macro lens.

Looks like the 80/400 is a little sharper, hank. Terrific images all.
