Two comparison images of a Snow bunting and a Lapland Longspur. The Snow buntings are regular winter migrants/visitors here and can often be found foraging for food in large flocks along roads, farm fields and river shores. The Longspur, on the other hand, is not a regular visitor in large numbers. One or two are sometimes found mixed with flocks of other birds. In this instance, it was found with 3 to 4 Snow Buntings foraging along the Ottawa River. All subsequently flew off with a large flock of buntings. Note these birds are similar in size. I caught them both in a similar sit-down pose.
