The Owlets, now about 5 - 6 weeks old are starting to get crowded in the nest and they appear anxious to start exploring the world beyond the nest. They are now constantly reaching and stretching over the edge of the nest, trying to reach the top stubby branches of the dead tree where mom often sits. The bigger of the young, which is probably several days older than its sibling, appears to do most of the stretching/reaching to the point that it at times appears ready to fall or be pushed out of the nest. To my knowledge, the young have not yet been seen out of the nest at this date; however, a few days later we observed it making the leap of faith to the top branch. I'll post a series on this in the next few days.
In this image, the front owlet seems a bit bored with life and lets out a big yawn.
