20121001 062 1r1 SERIES - Golden-crowned Kinglet.jpg

My Backyard

Two close-up images of a Golden-crowned Kinglet

Whilst we were having lunch, my wife noticed this little Kinglet quietly sitting on our patio. It seemed rather dazed. I suspect that it may have flown into our upstairs bedroom window, then fallen to the ground. I took a few photographs, then though its eyes seemed alert, it allowed me to approach and to touch it with my hand. I had intended to pick it up and place it an a branch out of harms way from possible predators (cats) which often chase the birds in our yard. Before I could pick it up however, it flew off into a bush. I saw it again the next day, no worse for wear.

We had a similar experience about three years ago our grandson actually picked up a fallen Kinglet from our patio. See http://www.pbase.com/hankvv/image/118858046 .

Kinglet turning away from me just before it flies off.

Fabulous close-up shots of this little beauty. I am sure that you are right and it was probably dazed from the collision. Thank goodness it was alright.
