Miraflores Locks. The Statendam (our ship) is just visible on the left. We are in the filled left locks and a container ship is passing through the right locks. Note the two "Mules" (one each side) at the back of the container ship to guide it and to prevent it hitting the sides. Note also that both ships are going in the same direction. Because of the narrow canal beyond, traffic in both locks goes north in the morning and south in the afternoon.
