Two comparison images. The top image is as modified in PS and adding a frame, the bottom of which covers the top rail of a chain-link fence. The bottom image is as shot with no post treatment.
Several people have asked me how I do/and or how I came up with this idea of treating an image having the frame cover an unsightly perch such as a telephone cable or a fence top. It's quite simple actually. When I first came up with the idea, I simply tried to get rid of the telephone cable on which the Hawk was perched (see http://www.pbase.com/hankvv/image/140442992). Next, I thought why not add a frame. And voila, I got an image with the Hawk either coming out of or going into the frame. (See http://www.pbase.com/hankvv/image/140364962).
I start by cropping the image and rotating the crop such that the bottom of the crop is horizontal to the cable or rail and right below the tip of the lowest talon. I then just simply pick a frame colour and draw a series of horizontal lines to cover the offending horizontal perch making sure to stop on each side of the projecting elements (talons). It is best to zoom up to 100% when doing this. Some cloning to remove the projecting wires above the rail completes the job. Then I just add the side and top frame lines, either using a "pencil" or a "brush". (Note: to get straight vertical or horizontal lines using the "pencil" just hold down "shift" after placing the cursor at the start point and then moving the cursor up for vertical or sideways for horizontal lines.)
Original as shot image. Note, for this image I already shot the image with the top of the fence horizontal and at the bottom of the frame; hence, I did not have to rotate the crop.
