Three images of a Black and Yellow Argiope Spider.
Top image: Underside-view of the Orb-weaving spider positioned near the centre or the stabilimentum of its spiral, wheel-shaped, web. The stabilimentum is a crisscross band of silk through the centre of the web. The stabilimentum is thought to lure prey, is a marker to warn birds away from the web and it is a camouflage for the Spider when it sits at the centre of the web.
Reportedly, many orb-weavers build a new web each day, towards evening. The Spider will then consume the old web, then after a brief rest it will spin a new one in the same general location.
