The Merganser confined to a small area of frigid open water, shared with many Mallards, desperately tries to re-grab her catch and swallow it before I or the Mallards can take it from her. To me, the Catfish seems too big too swallow and too heavy to fly off with. But, the Merganser was determined. This allowed me to get quite a few good shots. It was so cold that ice-beads were forming on the Merganser's head and feathers as it was swimming around churning up the water. (-18C with a wind chill of -24C or 0F and -11F) After about 10 minutes of shooting, I was starting to freeze up and both I and the Merganser had had enough.
