Two images of what I think is a Broad-winged Hawk. This would be a first for me, if that is what it is. Any comments re: the I.D. would be appreciated. Thank you Ted, Chris and Guest for identifying this to be a juvenile Cooper's.
Sometimes one just gets lucky. I've been laid up after some minor surgery this past Monday; hence, I've not been able to go out and do any nature photography. So, guess what. Several birds decided to pay me a visit and I was able to get some good shots through my bedroom window and/or through the patio doors of our kitchen. In these two shots, a large Hawk came for a visit. My wife saw its reflection in our microwave. It was perched on a fence right above our birdbath, about six meters from our patio doors. My wife quickly summoned me to the kitchen. After seeing the Hawk, I hurried downstairs to get a camera. Usually, by the time I would return, the bird would have flown off. Not this time. I was able to get about 10 shots from the kitchen window, then two from our upstairs bedroom before the Hawk took off. It then perched on top of a hydro pole about three properties over. I took a few more shots from our backyard, then went to get my 500mm lens. Alas, my luck ran out. The Hawk was gone when I got back.
