Three of us went to Chaffeys Locks on May 22, mainly to look for Warblers. It must have been our lucky day. We saw and photographed some 14 different birds, eight of which were firsts for me. On the way home, we even saw a Least Bittern in a field not far from the road. Didn't get a shot of it though as it hunkered down in the tall grass, then flew off when we were about 30 feet from it. My firsts for this day are, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo Bunting, Common Yellowthroat, Brewster's, Black-throated Green, Ovenbird, Yellow-throated Vireo and the Cerulean Warbler.
Our good luck continued the next day. We went to Petrie Island, where an American Bittern had been reported. We actually found three (an other first for me) We also found a Sora that morning.
Yesterday I got an other lucky find. Whilst looking for Loons, I spotted a black-headed Gull flying over the water catching small minnows. Got some good shots.. Not sure of the ID yet, but an other first for me.
