A rather tragic ending to the first nesting attempt in 2009 by this Loon pair. The nest was put together in what seemed to be a great hurry. The water was still quite high, but I think that the female was ready to lay her eggs. They tried several locations, settled on this one and she laid two eggs. Alas, the nest and eggs are gone now. We had some rain along with strong winds over the past few days and the water seems to have gone up a few inches. Today, I couldn't locate the loons, nor any remnants of the nest. There is still plenty of time for the loons to start over so I'll keep on the look-out for the loons and hopefully we'll get a happy ending.
