20081015 187 Bee 20mm ET.jpg

My backyard

A FITTING END?

After stuffing itself with pollen or nectar from the honeysuckle flowers, this bee seems to have found its final place of rest on the petals of one of the flowers. It stayed in this position for more than 10 minutes whilst I watched and took shots, with only an occasional twitch of its limbs. I think it was dying, but when I looked again about an hour later, it was gone. Perhaps the wind had dislodged it from its final perch.

Several people have suggested that the Bee may have been drunk. Perhaps? Maybe that's why it just lounged there in its comfortable hammock.

It's an interesting and usual shot! I often see images of bees busily foraging but this is something else! Sad!

A remarkable photo. Bumblebees do not live after the first hard frost (except for the queen who hibernates underground or in a warm, safe spot), so this bee was reaching the end of its life, whether at this moment or some while later. Sad, but that is nature's way with these bees. Fantastic closeup. V

Is he dead? Looks like he sleeps in his hammock!
I love this picture.
