An unsuual, possibly unique Perry, single shot rifle in an unknown centerfire cartridge. Approximately 40 caliber (chamber to be cast to determine exact cartridge). Stamped PERRY PATENT ARM CO. on left receiver. No other markings on frame or barrel. Heavy full octagon 27 1/4" barrel. Original rear tang sight and front globe sight. What is puzzling about this gun is that the Perry Patent Arms Co was in business ca. 1854-1858 during which time made 200 carbines ca. 1855 for the U.S. Navy and some sporting rifles in percussion ignition, long before the centerfire cartridge was developed. Outwardly the appearance of this rifle resembles the earlier percussion guns but on closer inspection the frame and internal mechanics are different. I do not believe this is a converted percussion carbine. Research in many references and on the internet has not turned up any information on this rifle. If anyone can help in identifying this gun please reply to this site.
I own a 1855 Perry sporting rifle 50 calibre, and would be glad of any info/share info on this subject
