Christian Zettler Gallery Rifles

Christian Zettler is most likely the maker of the rifles marked CHr Zettler in this gallery. Christian arrived in this country in 1853 and settled in the 10th ward on the East side of Manhattan. He changed his name from Konrad Christian Zettler to Christian Konrad Zettler, and operated as a gunsmith at 62 Essex Street. One of the reasons it's difficult to find information on Christian is he died so young, at age 32, in August 1865. John Charles Zettler changed his name from Johann Karl Zettler upon immigrating to this country. John and his two sons, Charles George Zettler and Bernhardt "Barney" worked at 73 Allen Street in the 10th ward in Manhattan. The first business location of the Zettler Brothers, Charles and Barney was at 134 Bowery in 1867. The last shooting gallery was located at 159 West 23rd Street from 1899 to 1918. We are looking for any additional information, photographs, or gun photos of any Zettler built guns whether they be gallery guns, mid-range, or long-range rifles. If you can help, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
