This rifle is currently under evaluation to determine if it is actually an H.M. Pope barreled Ballard. The barrel is stamped "H.M.Pope.,Hartford,Conn." but we are uncertain if it is original. The barrel is full octagon, 30 inches long, and measures 1 1/8 inch at the breech tapering to 1 1/16 inch at the muzzle. The false muzzle is numbered to the barrel, but not rifled. Stock is "Birds Eye Maple" and nicely configured for both offhand and rest shooting. The 3/4 inch diameter John W. Sidle telescope is of unknown power and serial numbered. It is 25 1/4 inches long, mounted in elevation and windage adjustable mounts.
