The original rifle was made by William Defibaugh a major gunsmith. He opened his shop in his mother's home which was a tavern on the Bedford-Bloody Turnpike. The original rifle was made as a flint lock but was later converted to a percussion lock. Rudy Bahr was a major craftsman and was an apprentice of Carl Pippert. The octagon barrel length is 44 inches, LOP is 13 inches, and the weight is 7 pounds. The rifle is in 40 caliber.
