Hope the family/wife count is correct this time Sonny.
Gerri, looks to be another all-out good times at Tsukiji... judging from the Bulldog Newsletter of 50+ years
ago, Bing was stuck upon the McKinley statue's pedestal and not the flagpole as she related nor upon the
roof as you had her... then again, maybe someone's next post might have her being stuck in McKinley
High School's statehood tree.
Manny, when I spoke to the assistant librarian at KHS, she told me almost the exact same thing about the
'time capsule'... but added that this was only what she had heard from others... you got it from the ones
who were directly involved... shows you that police/detective training involves far more than hand and
arm waving at traffic intersections.
Bing, I realized and remembered that after I had sent out the email 'blog'... had your involvement mixed up
because you were the one who recruited me to participate in the pep squad tryouts... luckily, for the other
guys who were then able to make the squad, I backed out at the last minute.
Will be great to see you at Tsukiji again Edwina... and at the next reunion(s).

Aloha Harold, Sonny, Brenda, Robert eta.
YEP! Super News, great response at this short notice to visit with old friends Doug Okada, Pam Machida or
anyone else who is visiting.
Our Master Archivist, and world traveler, Chesta just popped back in town and it always is such a delight to
be able to go through Chesta's comprehensive collection of photos that never fails to jog the stored up
grey matter of our innocent youthful days of yore that Chesta generously provides from the heart.
Great fun, I never tire of reliving these memories so do look u charming Chesta and digest the wealth of his
amazing organized compendiums to see how cute we all were once upon a time.
If looking at these archives stir up funny tales, do share them with us, all in fun of course.
Forgive me Bing, but I cannot forget the story of you being abandoned and stuck on McKinley HS's roof after
the dirty deed was done(LOL).
Perhaps we could document some of these hilarious tales somewhere to share with classmates.
Chest's cousin Marge Miura will be there too along w/Karen Yabui and Edwina Ahn, Wally Nakaoka Roy
Okano, Manuel Mattos and more.
If anyone runs late, not too worry, many of us have full plates in our lives we do not need to sweat the small
stuff, life is much to short to waste.
Many of our retired classmate do not keep computers at home so if you see any of them, please invite them
to our luncheon.
SONNY, Another songleader pal to add is Rebecca Kaneshiro fyi.
You must also tell us when you will be in town.
Must add sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to the families of classmates that have left us, did
not know Clifton well, remember that he always had a quiet smile, Norbert Correia, Nick Perez, Littleman
John Gomes, Haroldine Chun among others, our prayers are with them.
Keep well friends.

Aloha fellow classmates.
Sorry to hear about our fellow classmates passing.
Gary Gomes was with me at St. Patrick's from the first grade.
Brenda and Bob, sorry about not being at your wedding.
It was my fault for not being there, my wife asked me if we were going that morning and I said no.
I guess with all that I am doing nowadays, my mind gets caught up in too many things.
Know some old news.
I went to Kaimuki High School about two weeks ago to pick up some paper work.
When I parked in the circle fronting the flag pole, a janitor was standing there.
Having a policeman's mentality, I asked him his name and how long he worked at the school.
Turns out that he was the younger brother of our class mate Frank Lopes, and he has been working there
for 28yrs.
So I turned around to the Monkey Pod trees in the turn around area and asked him, which of them was
the youngest tree there when he first started.
He said, the ugly one on our left.
So that told me, that stupid looking tree is our long lost State Hood tree.
Maybe Hal can take a picture of that tree and show all our classmates.
It looks like all our classmate in our yearbook picture, didn't have a green thumb.
Now about our time capsule.
When I asked him about a time capsule buried by the flagpole, he related that he and his boss dug up a
capsule in the early 90's and said that it was buried there in the early 80's.
I said how did he know about it being buried in the 80's.
He said that over the capsule was a black plastic marker and items in it came from that time.
If you turn to our senior year book page 2, about 3/8 " above James Kekahuna's head, that is where the
capsule was found.
So, that means our capsule, if there is one, is still some where inside that rockwall.
Here's the plan, one Sat. we all bring our pick and shovels and dig up that whole area.
Or Carol Gouviea and I will go and when we find it we will keep everything that we find for ourself.
All this policework work done in one hour.
By the way, I was born on Nov. 27, 1941, and made 70 last year.
That makes me the oldest person with the youngest mind.
Last note, Brenda, I didn't lose out, Mr. Obama lost out.
To all our classmates and all our pure souls that have left us,
God bless you all, Manny

Give me a 'K'... give me an 'a'... give me... OK, OK... give you a break.
Sonny, I believe Bing (Betty Ing) was once also a song leader... can't remember if there was anyone else.
Anyone with contact info for Karen Thurston, Karen Bertram or any other 'missing' classmate, please do
contact me or the reunion committee to pass it on.
Looks as if there'll be a 'full house' at Tsukiji, Gerri... will see you and the others there.

Sonny,
I'm assuming the 'tongue-sticking' was meant for Gerri ; )
I believe some of the cheer-song leaders were KHS '61 grads:
Becky Kaneshiro - lives in California,
Elaine Miyahara - lives in Hawaii,
Ed Fujimoto - lives in D.C. (according to Bing)
Of the KHS '60 cheerleaders, those I haven't seen at recent reunions:
Alexander Hill - although he was at the 40th, lives on the Big Island
Noel Chung - lives in California
Yes, Karen Thurston Jeffcoat's sister is Vikki Thurston Mesa (KHS '61).
Tried to locate both of them when they both had an address in Florida... no luck.
Vikki's last location was in California, but that trail turned up cold.
Hopefully someone out there may know the whereabouts of Karen Bertram (Young ?)
I'll try to post some of this on the 'blog'.

Brenda,
I've mentioned this before on the 'blog' but repeating it in case you missed seeing it.
I met and talked to Karen Lynn Thurston Jeffcoat a few years after, I believe it was, our 30th class reunion.
She had come to Honolulu to get her Mom after her Dad had passed away.
I was a business-related acquaintance of her Dad and had called his number on a question I had.
When Karen answered and subsequently told me of her Dad's passing, I told her I'd drop by to give my condolences.
I gave Karen a copy of our reunion group photo and we talked for a few minutes about her Dad and high school.
She mentioned the names of classmates that she could remember and yours was one of them.
She also mentioned that Karen Bertram lived in Texas where she also lived.
Last I saw somewhere, Karen Bertram's married name is/was Young... can't be certain if that is, or is still, correct.
Tried over the years to locate a Karen Ann Bertram or a Karen Ann Young to match our classmate with no success.
Will keep trying as hopefully better resources become available and more info comes up.
By the way, have been trying to locate Karen Thurston with no real success.
Each time I think I've tracked her down, even by phone, she's no longer at that location.
Last location I had her at was in Texas... which just happens to also be where Marian Ruth Kirkpatrick Jones
currently resides... no, Karen Thurston's name didn't ring a bell with Ruth when I mentioned it in the phone
conversation I had with her a few months back... yours did though.

So I'm sending this reply to you with your email address intact, but to Sharon and Jane on the Bcc: line with the hope

Pearl also sent a reminder on the next reunion committee meeting: Thursday, February 23 at 6PM.
Brenda, Sonny... someone did mention the Philippines as a suggestion for our 70th birthday reunion on
the reunion survey we had earlier last year... perhaps that could be a serious consideration for the next
reunion... mini, informal or whatevah it is... while we're still capable physically and of course mentally

Aloha Harold and dear classmates and friends.
Although this is on short notice our classmates Doug and Pam are in town and would love to visit with
other classmates and friends.
Believe Doug departs on Feb. 7 and Pam a little later.
Love to get together with everyone again especially with visiting classmates.
We have scheduled a 12noon lunch at Tsukijii Fish Market and Restaurant at Ala Moana Shopping Center,
4th floor mauka side, Hookipa Terrace.
Senior discountis 25% so the $22.68 ($18.95 plus T&T) regular price lunch will be at the discounted Sr.price
of $17.01 (including tax and tip).
As you are aware Tsukijii's have an exceptional yummy Japanese lunch buffett so plan on coming "hungary".
We had a great turnout(tripled my reservation count) last year seeing so many old friends.
Do try to join us and let us know so that I can keep a count, email me or use this blog to help us out at this
short notice (mahalo dear Harold).
IF ANY OTHER CLASSMATES ARE VISITING IN TOWN, DO COME.
Also if any of you know of anyone who wish to join us for lunch, ask them and give me a count.

A P.S. from the Ignacio/Gores:
After reading Sonny's THREE invitations, I am laughing out loud that he says for all to consider visiting him
"before we forget our names," but how about our memory and repeating ourselves??!! Ha!
As far as their "small" home, how does 16,000 sq. feet sound to any of us with homes in Hawaii??
Sonny's daughter RC is an Interior Designer, a Registered Nurse, and some other amazing stuff.
Anyway, she had to change the design of their new home to be blessed on April 2, (Sonny's 69th birthday)
on the golf course, because it was too far from his bed to his water closet!!
He is so funny!
And his wife IS the Treasurer of all their companies, so he always has to ask her for money.....so he says,
although he does look well fed and cared for.
And his "goodnight message" before he climbs the stairs to his private castle is "don't bother me, and I
won't bother you!"
What a guy.
Had to share that, because we can attest to the fact that he is the best host and friend any Kaimuki classmate
could wish for.
He is also sentimental and kind.
Go now, Kaimuki.
Over and out.
Brenda

Yep Vernon, Miss Nunes' first name is Haroldine... and also for our classmate Haroldine Chun.
For some reason I never could forget that first name and who it belonged to.

Hi, fellow classmates!! Happy New Year! Robert and I arrived in Manila on New Year's Eve,
were met by Sonny Tambunting and driver, and arrived at their beautiful home, joining with
children and grandchildren for the fireworks and dinner at midnight.
WOW What an experience!
Neighbors set off the kind of fireworks that we see at the HHV or the big displays we get at
magic island or flat island in Kailua.
Big time.
Sonny, his beautiful wife and family are the warmest, most loving hosts, and we were totally
spoiled.
Since I had only one brother, lost both my parents too early, this adopted family has just
fulfilled a dream of mine for a big family, with their 6 children, 18 grandchildren, and
spouses.....yes, a bus load!
Every Sunday they spend lunch together, such a close family, with enormous talents, and all
extremely lovable.
Sonny has a sense of humor that is delightful and sincere.
He is gifted, witty and generous.
We laughed so much, our sides hurt.
We also ate only one meal a day, ....from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Such fun to experience the Philippines for the first time with a family.
My son, who is with Hawaiian Air, has visited, but was blown away with our stories today when
we got together for dinner as he only knows the crew hotel.
He will definitely call Sonny for a golf match.
Robert and I just arrived yesterday afternoon, so this is our first day home, and we couldn't wait
to tell you all how sincere Sonny's invitation is for Kaimuki High classmates to visit.
We didn't know that Sonny had a huge crush on Bobbie Baptist.
He thinks she is an angel, warm and wonderful. (We agree)
Her kindness to him when he was new to Hawaii really touched him.
We didn't know there was no one to attend his graduation, as his mother had returned to the PI,
and he was alone.
We felt so bad about that.
Oh, his mother is the best known actress of the PI, Mila del Sol.
She is still gorgeous at 89 years old!
I taught her "Lovely Hula Hands" to dance for her senior group, and her facial expressions are
priceless.
Her laugh is also heaven-sent.
Promise to return calls and get together more this year.
Thank you so much for all the good wishes and love.
Robert and I truly appreciate it.
Feels like we are reborn and starting over with friends from our youth.
Gerri, we will call soon for that birthday dinner with Jack.
Love and good health to each and all.
Brenda and Robert Ignacio-Gore

Aloha Brudda Hal - The name "Haroldine" rang a bell, but, if I´m not mistaken (?),
it was the first name of one of our teachers: Haroldine Nunes.

Hope all had a good start to the new year and will have a great rest of the year.
REMINDER - reunion committee meeting on 1/12, Thursday, 6PM at Unity House... they'll need the
help with prepping the reunion newsletters for mailing... drop by to help out and chat.
A possible sad note for the start of this year, if anyone could confirm, please do so:
From the Honolulu Star-Advertiser
Haroldine Aulani Chun Adams, 69, passed away on December 14, 2011
Believe she was our classmate up to at least our sophomore year at KHS.
More holiday greetings below from our classmates.
Come to think of it, you're right Gerri ! Don't hear those good old gems much any more.
Will be at CES and will try to post a report on the event from there if possible and if time permits.

Harold, Junie, Bing and friends.
Wishing all an incredible and rich New Year of the best things in life to you, your family and friends.
Junie and Bing re garaans barbans, just remembered, when you are in Honolulu, Foodland stores
sell plastic food bags one of which has a black background with many of the old local lingo, i.e.,
Bambucha, No can, kalakoa, hemajang, ahanakokolele, minahs, kalakoa, kuleana, akamai, an'den,
li'dat, holo holo, manini, mo'bettah,no shame, Fo' real etc.
It's a good looking grocery sack, the wording is comprised of many attractive colors.
So unless you are a keiki o'ka'aina, the malihini will be clueless.
A great fun gift items for mainland kama aina pals.
Dear Gores, did not intend to have a roast on old Jack, but he did love his first car very much and at
the time Jack would clearly open the "red sea" at the slightest indication of a car problem and I
had to validate his devotion to his beloved "petunia" in the frigid 30 degree Seattle weather and
having me wait almost hours then rush to nourish his starvation.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gore, wishing you a fun filled visit in the Philippines with charming Sonny and
his beautiful wife who are the best hosts ever.
Spoke with my dear friend Elwood Lim, retired and lives in Kaneohe, hope to somehow get together
with him and his lovely wife.
Happiness to all.

Subject: Happy New Year!
Another year has come and gone.
It seems only a month ago I wished all a Happy New Year and I'm doing it again.
This summer, I'll hit the "Big 70". What happened?
As I age, however, I've come to accept a lot of things and getting old is one of them.
I've been fortunate to have my health, family, friends and a comfortable existence.
I will miss those who have passed-on and friends who have moved far away.
Our lives are finite. We need to live it to the fullest.
I wish you long life, happiness and days filled with laughter and joy.
Happy New Year!
Roy
