Good find Louise... thought it was just a funny play on words until I read the whole thing... might have to try
and taste a sample... don't usually post items unless they're somewhat class related... this should qualify...
and maybe Jean Nakamura Worley can utilize this in her spam musubi recipe... finger-grip bumps on
football-sized spam musubi.
Vern, last saw Karen in 2001 at a KHS '61 reunion in Las Vegas.
She was the same gregarious and ever-smiling/laughing kolohe gal I remembered from High School.
George, and for those who didn't receive the heads-up on Manny being on TV, here's a link

Hal - Mahalo for publishing the obit on Karen Kim.
I, for one, was totally saddened by her passing.
She and family lived across the street from me on 8th and Kaimuki Aves.
Karen used to ride to and from school with me (in my old ´52 ford).
My family got to know her, and always thought of her as a wonderful, kolohe wahine.
Karen always brightened my day, I enjoyed her company, and now, will affectionally miss her.
Again: Big Mahalo. Vern

Thanks.

Howzit Dennis, great to see you at the Pearl Country Club reunion... you looked pretty fit and doing well.
Had been sending the email-blog to your old email address a while ago before it bounced.
You're back at what seems to be a time when classmates' posts have really slowed down... post-reunion slump ?
Thanks Chester... although I missed seeing Manny on TV, as I'm guessing a lot of others did also, here's a link
to that particular segment of the KGMB show :
http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=12823617
Though she was a KHS '61 grad, I'm sure a lot of our '60 classmates remember Karen Kim well like I do.
I know also that there are a few '61 grads reading the email blogs... a condensed item below :
KAREN NAOMI KIM REEVES
Age 67, of Kamuela, HI, passed away June 26, 2010 on Oahu. Born April 1, 1943 in Hilo, HI...
She graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1961 and worked at Trade Wind Tours and Sheraton Waikiki Hotel...
Celebration of life and visitation 4:30 p.m. Sunday (July 18) at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel; Prayer service 6:00 p.m.
Reminder again on the reunion DVD and cookbook fundraising offers... email me or the committee members or
write to Pearl Mori to order or for more info.

Saw Manny Mattos on the 5 PM news on KGMB.
He was constructing a surfboard for the Prince Lot Festival.
This segment may be repeated on Hawaii News Now.
That would mean KGMB, KFIVE and KHNL.

Got it Pam, will forward your message to Pearl and the cookbook committee re: the cookbook.
I know Gerri mentioned in her last email of being real busy lately, hopefully she'll see this before
you come in on January-February : )
Thanks Shinty, always good to see memories of our past... and your guess was right... all of the
photos have been around in emails for a while now... and all or most of them are actually from
the archives of the old Honolulu Advertiser... see the links below.

Hey Vern, too bad you can't make the LV reunion... bummers... although I can't recall seeing too
many Hanafuda tables at the casinos last I was there.

Hi Hal,
I will send a check to Pearl for the 3 cookbooks tomorrow.
If you can just hold it for me, I'll be there in late January and stay the whole month of February.
I'll let you know the exact dates later and you can let Gerri know since she said we could get together
when I come.
Thanks.

Hola! Hal, Carl, Pearl
Will post a cheque to Pearl this Wednesday, enuff to cover costs of the DVD and a cook book,
and there will be change left for the reunion fund.
I received the KHS Bulldog Reunion flyer in last Wed´s mail - Mahalo Pearl.
(My APO address should read: United Seamen´s Service, 2****, APO 0****).
By the way, I only receive APO mail once a week on Wednesdays.
(The APO is actually a small, but very functional, mail room serving 5 active duty, a few retirees, etal).
Was giving serious consideration to attending the Las Vegas bash, but it appears that won´t happen.
A few days ago I was notified by the US Consulate in Frankfurt that at a request by the VA they had
arranged a medical disability exam for me on October 14th.
That date definitely conflicts with any thoughts I entertained of seeing classmates again, or cleaning
up at a craps table.
I´ve never golfed, but play a mean hand of Hanafuda, Sakura, or whatever it´s called.
Check´s in the mail.
Best Regards, and God Bless all of you
Vern

As noted below by Carl Yasuda, the reunion slideshow DVD is ready for ordering and mailing.
The cost, $5.00, includes shipping within the U.S. and an additional $1.50 for shipping outside of the U.S.
The classmates mentioned in the notice below, and others, have donated their time, expertise and equipment
to produce this DVD... this includes photography, photo-finishing, DVD-burning (writing), designing and
printing among other services.
Most of the DVD cost of $5.00 will be used to cover expenses for material such as disks, jewel cases, printing
paper-ink, mailing envelopes, stamps and other related items... any monies left over after these expenses
will go to the KHS 1960 reunion fund.
As you might guess, this doesn't mean that much for the fund and nothing at all for those volunteering... this
DVD is being produced more for the enjoyment and use of the classmates.
I've also seen first-hand the spirit of volunteering and purpose of giving by the committee classmates with the
KHS cookbook... and that includes the recipe donators... MAHALO !

The cookbooks are $10 each plus postage to Canada if we mail them.
The check may be mailed to Pearl payable to KHS Class of 1960.
We can hold the cookbooks for you until next year if you don’t need them right away or
I guess we could arrange to get them to Patty if she’s going to Vegas.
Let us know your wishes.
Thanks

Hi Hal,
I'm so glad you're reselling the cookbooks.
I meant to tell my cousin, Patty Kawano, to pick some up for me but never got to talk to her
(she doesn't do computers) !!!
How should we handle the payment cuz I live in Canada.
Should I email Pearl and deal with her?
When she finds out how much it will cost to send me 3 cookbooks, I can send her the check
unless someone is willing to hold the cookbooks for me til I get there next year.
If my cousin is going to Vegas, it can be given to her and I can send a check to whomever
is in charge so payment is made prior.
Thanks for your help.

Please note the DVD offer below from the reunion committee.
I've previewed it and can attest to it's quality and worth... a lot of photos, great video and quite professionally done IMHO.
Also posted, the condensed version of the most recent Bulldog Bulletin (thanks to Muriel)... for those who may not have
received the mailed 'hard copy', or would like to pass it on electronically to other classmates.
Jean, according to Slug (Clifford Young), he apparently does bake them for around 30 minutes... here's what he wrote :
I bake them about 30 mins...2 trays at a time...12 cookies on each tray, with the trays on the lower & middle racks.
After the first 12-14 mins...I reverse the trays for the remainder of the cooking time.
Boyd's concern on Nuk, or rather your description, rated more than a chuckle or two.
Yes, you're right, Cherub Hal needs to get back to work again.
Anyone else wanting to contact another classmate on the list above, let me know... can/will do the same as done for
Yolinda Agaria with the same conditions and caveats.
Brenda, your reference to 'bake a cherry pie' had me perplexed for a while, thinking back to high school... suddenly
realized I had to go further back... way back... and it came back to me... quick as a cat can wink it's eye.
Hal

Notice from the reunion committee :
Due to requests for photos from the Honolulu class reunion in April, 2010, Chester Otani has produced a DVD slideshow
incorporating photos from several sources.
The reunion committee has decided to make this DVD slideshow available to all classmates.
The DVD slideshow includes photos from:
Golf outing at Waikele Golf Course; Around the island bus tour with Milton Napuunoa; Class reunion at Pearl Country Club;
Mini reunion at Kincaids restaurant; and Mini reunion for Sandy Ishimoto Yamada held at Maunalani Heights Nursing Home.
The DVD slideshow includes photos from four classmates: Roy Okano, Hal Oshiro, Carl Yasuda and Chester Otani.
Additional photos are included from Photoworks Hawaii (the professional photographer at the reunion) and Jalna Amoy
(who shot photos for Betty Townsend, one of our classmates, who couldn't make the reunion).
Short video clips are also shown on the slideshow.
This is a slideshow and you cannot make prints from it.
The DVD slideshow is 31 minutes long.
This slideshow is viewable on a computer or DVD player hooked up to a television set.
Additional note: DVD will play only on USA DVD players also known as Region 1.
This DVD has been seen by many of the reunion committee members and you can call or email them for their impressions.
If you are interested, please submit your name and address and include a check for $5 for the DVD.
This includes postage to US and Canadian addresses.
For international addresses, please add a $1.50 surcharge, for a total of $6.50.
Checks made payable to "KHS Class of 1960".
Carl Yasuda will be handling the copying and mailing of the DVD slideshow.
All requests should be sent to: Pearl Mori, 1448 Lunalilo Street, #2, Honolulu, HI, 96814.
Please call and inform other classmates, who may not have access to this blog, about this offer.

DISCLAIMER: This is not an 'official KHS '60 newsletter' but merely a voluntarily provided vehicle to pass on
information from the reunion committee, as an aside to the primary purpose of providing a focal point for your
classmate 'memories' and communication. Please refer to the Bulldog Bulletins mailed out by the reunion
committee for definitive 'official' information ( most recent issue dated June 18, 2010 ) .
