Hi Yolinda, I'll be giving your email address to the reunion committee... they can send you any info that you request.
In the meantime, hopefully the info on this email (above and from the classmates) will be of some help.
If you missed them, read the archived blogs on the website ( ) for more info
and memories from the past.
I do remember you at the LV Fremont reunion... thought you looked great with the matching muumuu and orchids.

Thanks Sheldon (Edward)... as I related in an email to you, the URL is actually valid but there apparently have been some
problems off and on with Internet Explorer not recognizing it... I wasn't having a problem with my default browser
(Firefox), so didn't know about it until you and others notified me... I've retyped the links, in case the email formatting
was the cause, and was able to load the links in I.E. without a hitch... for now... we'll see what happens.

On another note, any help with married names for the female classmates on the 'unable to locate' list is appreciated.

Thanks Pearl... Vern will be relieved to hear that... would likely be almost as much as the banquet
fee to securely forward the payment from half-way around the world... he can also pay me the
commision-late fee later.

For Slug and the rest... typo correction... have been informed the previous info I passed on for the
April 17 banquet was preliminary... should wait for the 2/26 bulletin for final info... all dates and
places mentioned are firm... final costs will be on that bulletin.
Note of interest... one of the committee members mentioned hearing of another school also having
a 50th reunion... at the Hale Koa... at I think $65 a person... believe ours will be $40 or likely less.

Vern, Wayne's services were at Mililani Mortuary Downtown, so I believe internment would have
been at Mililani Memorial Park but I did locate a Wayne Kenji Okada (our age) at Diamond
Head Memorial Park... they have a plot locater:
Penelope Taguchi Tanaka's services were at Diamond Head Mortuary and Memorial Park
( ), but I couldn't find her info with the locater.

Thanks Paul, will place Edward / Sheldon on the list.

Great Pearl, I haven't seen the count on the banquet roster myself, but... you never know... as Carl has said,
this being the BIG FIFTY we may see a lot of last-minute attendees.
Good reminder for all... the committee likely needs your attendance commitment sooner than later for the
April 17th reunion banquet... also let others know to ensure a timely response as soon as the next bulletin
with the full info is sent out.
As noted below, I'll be posting the layout sketch on the Pbase website for others to see... note that the seating
arrangement is probably just a 'typical' setup to give an idea of spacing.

Reminder again: T-shirts and Totebags - March 15 deadline to place orders for April 17th reunion banquet pickup.

Manny, you may want to think twice about your email address and cell number on the blog... besides the 100+ who
are being sent these email blogs, there may be countless others reading the blogs second or even third-hand...
or others that we, or the 2nd & 3rd 'handers', may not even know about... I know... paranoid... but hey... better
safe than... actually, sending that info directly to maybe not more than a handful of classmates at a time would
probably be OK.

Pearl, Harold,

I know that we are only planning for the numbers that responded to the survey but,
I believe that more than 100 people will show up for the reunion.
Of course, we'll know more when we ask for payment for the banquet.
I could be wrong.
I know of at least 4 other people who had not responded are leaning towards going to the reunion
and who knows how many more might be in the same category.
Maybe we need to alert everyone again on notifying us if they plan to attend.
I thought Vernon Wong was also coming in from Germany and he is not listed on Pearl's roster.
Another one is Douglas Okada from Las Vegas.
Anyway, with the sitting as it is, we won't have room for much more people.
I'm just concerned we won't be able to accommodate everyone showing up at the door.
This is such a big event that will draw more classmates to the reunion.
Again it depends on the response with payment.
Well, I said what's on my mind.

Just a thought,

Got it.
It's a 'Microsoft Picture It' document.
I've converted it to a standard 'jpg' type picture document... attached for your reference and the others
who may need to know.
I'll also post it on the website for others to reference.
Note that the attached file is smaller than the one that I'll be placing on the website...
didn't want to send you all something too large.

Is this a standard firm layout or open to adjustment ?
Noticed a setup for 96 seats with a stage area.
Guessing that it's firm like any other banquet facility... just curious.

There should be room to accommodate 3 craft tables and a reception table to share with Carl.
We are having dinner, the time frame is 5pm - 10:30pm.
However, I think we can go in and setup at 3:30pm.
We have not decided as yet to have the craft tables inside or outside as we are also having

Hi everyone: My girlfriend, Danielle, said that orders for t-shirts, sweatshirts, zippered totebags, canvas totebags
with hunter green handles should be in by March 15th in order to be sent for the April 17th reunion.
It takes our mail at least 7 days to get to Skagway, 7 days to complete the orders, 7 days to mail down to Honolulu
and 7 days in case of a blizzard sometime in between.

For the ladies who want a t-shirt or sweatshirt but really don't like to wear them,I am making them with a zipper
down the front.
The reunion logo is printed on the back and an alumni patch is sewn on the left side.
You would have to pay $5 extra for Carl's patch but I'm not charging extra for the zipper.
Sizes go up to 5XL. Color of your choice.
The green, light gray and black have turned out nice.
Kaimuki gold and hunter green look good, too.
The t-shirt can be long or short-sleeve.
They make a nice lightweight sweater.

Paul Texeira asked about a logo on an apron so I'm going to find a better quality one besides the sample I sent to Carl.
Green or black apron would seem to be better color choices because the BBQ and teriyaki stains won't show as much
as on a lighter color.

Elsie and Seda: Your items look really good!!!
Boyd and I will be ordering for the Oct. 10th reunion.

Hal, you can put out my email address and cell number to your blog.

February 16, 2010

Bobby, as the classmates have always kept their thoughts and prayers in mind for other classmates in similar situations,
I'm sure they will definitely do the same now for Dennis.

Seda, actually I myself have encountered that problem a couple of times when I used Internet Explorer.
I normally use Firefox so I didn't know about it until Elsie brought it to my attention.
I did re-enter the URLs within the email blogs and that seemed to have resolved the problem... for a while.
Tried it again after reading your email and did have the problem again with IE, none with Firefox.
Can't say for sure whether this is specific to IE but should it happen again, try a link on the email that works to get onto
the website, then click on the link (which should be on each page) which gets you to the main page with all the links.
Hope this works for you and any other classmate with the problem, meantime I'll keep checking and working on it.

Carl, as I've already mentioned in my email reply to you, I believe Manny doesn't have his own website... just appears
in many others... like these:

Gerri, as I've mentioned to Slug in my email reply to him, the exact times and costs haven't been relayed as of yet.
Those should be forthcoming along with the remittance info within the next bulletin that I believe will be sent out
immediately after the 2/25 committee meeting... I only have the firm dates and locations: 4/17/10 at Pearl Country Club
for a dinner banquet and 10/10/10 at Main Street Station Hotel-Casino for a luncheon banquet.

It was NOT cancerous, but he had to have his stomach removed.

However, just wondering if other people are having the same problem?

Thank you for posting the results of the reunion committee meeting.
Elsie and I are looking forward to the whole affair.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help make things easier.
We are both going to be there a couple of days before the reunion, so we will contact you then.

Elsie, as I recall a dinner menu for April was discussed at one of the meetings... also, at the last meeting,
a couple of committee members mentioned planning to check the Pearl Country Club facilities on space
requirements before the next meeting on Feb. 25... if I have a chance, I'll see if I can do the same and
also take a couple of photos of the area.

Whoa Manny, that would have been really something to see and hold... rocks from the bottom of the Mariana
Trench... 'Moon Rocks' are probably more common to see than those.
Some of Manny's weapons can be seen on this video:
Contact Pearl or email me if you're interested in Manny's Hawaiian war weapon handicraft.

Hi, Pearl….Thank you for the “heads up” on the craft fair.
I’m assuming that the tables are the standard folding type (not card table size).
If so, Seda and I would like to have 2 tables, which we will share.
BTW, are we having a luncheon rather than dinner?
In any event, would like to take a look at the room to determine where you would like to have tables set up…
will call you when I arrive.

We can do the craft fair on 4/17/10 at the Pearl Country Club during the reunion event.
We need to know how many tables you and Seda would need.
Be aware that the area is not that big.
I know Manny needs one for himself as his items are big..

Hi fellow classmates, Manny here.
Have been working hard lately.
Just came back from Maui, where Geophysicist Dr.Gerard Fryer from P.T.W.C. and I, from State civil Defense,
went to three schools and educated the students and Staff on Tsunamis.
The students really enjoyed the videos showing real tsunamis.
But mostly it was the teachers who needed help in what to do, when the State goes into a Tsunami warning.
On this trip, I had a little help in holding the students attention.
Gerard's wife who is a Geologist and Geophysicist at U.H. Manoa, has two special rocks.
These two rocks are the rarest in the world.
They came from the bottem of the Mariana Trench, seven miles down.
We took them with us.
The students and teacher were able to see and touch them after our presentation.
Brenda, I am almost finished with the War Weapon.
I will take a picture of it and put it on the web.
I will also place it and other weapons on display at the Historic Preservation Awareness Day on March 15th
at the State Capitol, from 0900hrs to 1200hrs.
Hope our get together is still on for the 16th, at 1700hrs.
Will our classmate let me know if they are intrested in buying my weapons, so I have an idea what and
how much to bring for the craft fair.
Think and Stay young, Manny

My name is Jalna Amoy.
I am a blogger buddy of one of your classmates, Betty Townsend
(I think her maiden name was Chung-Hoon, but I'm not sure).
Betty lives in California now, and so wanted to come home for your 50th reunion.
Unfortunately, she won't be able to make it after all.
So I was wondering . . . I have a passion for photography and would really love to attend
the reunion just to take pictures for Betty.
If you like, I can give you a CD with all the pictures that I take that evening.
I did take reunion pictures this past year for a coworker of mine, not in any official capacity,
but just because it's something that I like to do.
You can check out the pictures from the reunion on my blog:
I would probably not stay the whole night, but just long enough to catch most of the people there.

I am actually a fellow alumni, Class of '71 and have been asked by the Class of '70 to take
pictures at their upcoming reunion this October 16th.

I would totally understand if my request cannot be granted for any reason.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Message passed on Clarence... that gathering apparently will be this Saturday... might be a stretch for you
to attend in time : )

Mahalo Carol... not only sounds good but healthy too.

REMINDER: reunion committee meeting tonight at 6PM, Unity House, 1701 Ala Wai Blvd... across the canal
from the Hawaii Convention Center.

Recently pointed out to me that a couple of website links weren't working with Internet Explorer (Firefox OK)
on the email blogs sent out... notably the 'catalog' link on the order form... should be working fine now.
I've left in the catalog order form on this email, but I believe any message with the proper order info sent by
email or mailed to Pearl will be OK with the committee.

Hey Bing and the others out in the Mid-Atlantic area... hope you all are doing fine and able to burrow out of
all that snow... saw some pictures my daughter sent of the area... low 60s here doesn't seem so bad now : )

One of our favorite chicken recipes for grilling, named after my niece who devised it:

Julie's Chicken
Equal parts of olive oil, s*******

A recent recipe I put together and it's become a family favorite:

Angel Hair with Shiitake Mushrooms
1 lb. angel hair or linguine or your choice

Boiled Peanuts

2 lbs. raw peanuts in shell
Crisp and delicious!

February 7, 2010

OK Muriel, will have the cookbook set up for $10 - plus S&H costs if being forwarded.

Mike, as you might guess from the other messages, the ordering for the cookbook and other things wasn't
actually set up yet... now that I've gotten, I believe, all the info from the reunion committee and the
craft fair sellers, I'll post the ordering form based on that info... the form can either be copied and
printed out to be filled and mailed to the reunion committee (see the Bulldog Bulletin for mailing info)
or the relevant form info along with the desired item(s) info can be emailed to me or to one of the
reunion committee contacts noted in the Bulldog Bulletin.

Thanks Seda and Arlene for the recipes... too bad... would have been great for SUPER SUNDAY.

Jane, since your question is posted here, maybe we'll hear from the classmates themselves... regardless,
I'll try to drop by at the next reunion committee meeting (2/11) and bring it up if no one else does.

Aloha, Hal, et. al.!

Ohio LOVES Hawaii...........we still have the honor of representing a state of pure love, and my visit was amazingly
touching and beautiful, starting on the plane when I landed in Columbus, Ohio.
I put a yellow plumeria lei around my neck so my pen pal's family could recognize me, and the whole plane ooohed
and aaahed at the smell, and one man said, "wow, are you ever on the wrong end of this flight!"
Everyone laughed.
Leis, flowers, chocolate macs, coconut candy, Big Island shortbread, many treats shared with hospice staff.
Two lifelong friends dancing hula from floor and bed .....tears of joy throughout. Grateful.

Manny, H E L L O ?!
The vog getting to the brain cells?
Songleaders are leaders of song, and their feet and arms work together mostly,
and they can lead a song in any key......but sing?
Eh, try to not assume, and you know why that is! ;-)
Nonetheless, a sweet thought, assured comedy.

Hal, regarding your affection for honey, does that include your wife's "honey, do!" list?

Now back and up to speed, here's my recipe for hot summer days, bridal showers, Valentine's Day, anytime:

"Love and Honesty" Fruit Salad
Fresh strawberries, *******
Chill thoroughly, to blend flavors, *******

I also have a couple of recipes my family loves; if no one has sent in Portuguese Bean Soup (New Year's Day favorite)
or Guava/Honey Glazed Ham.

Love and gratitude,

February 3, 2010

Thanks Clarence... anything with honey in it is tops in my humble opinion ; )

Take your time Sharon... we have several weeks before the first 50th reunion : )
Jean, you took the words right out of my mouth before I could even open it... Boyd, is this something universal with wives ?!
I've been giving that some thought and feel that maybe we should have pre-orders sent to Pearl or emailed to one of the other
committee members whose email address is listed on the recent Bulletin sent out... an option to that is to have pre-orders
emailed directly to me and I'll pass them on to the respective sellers... nothing will be on the blogs or on the Pbase website,
other than the blank forms for the sale items, which can be used as a guide for ordering, and of course the descriptions and
photos of the sellers' items.

Should be no problem Charlene... haven't heard from the cookbook commitee re: stopping further recipe offerings... yet.

Hi to Sharon LaTraille Kazel:
Glad we finally found you.
Did you hear us talking about you?
I was telling everybody several months ago that I thought it was so nice of Hiroyasu Narita to go to the prom
with you even though he probably had no clue what a prom was or how important going to the prom was
for us girls.
Did you double-date with Theta Tanimoto?
Tell us what you have done in 50 years.
Where did you finish school?
How many kids?
Where have you lived?
What sort of jobs have you held?
Are you retired?

Maybe you can make a blank order form that people can print and then send to you or Carl.
Do you want me to make one out and email it to you to give you an idea of what I mean?
That way the internet spammers or robbers can’t get addresses of classmates or whatever else they like to do.

I got my Big Bad Boyd’s Big “S” Spam Sushi Roll” trophy and miscellaneous prizes out of the cupboard
but I have to get the young officers at work to help me email you a picture of my trophy made of smashed
Spam cans and held together with 4 inch nails.

Carol Tom, Carol Eto, Elsie and Seda:
Just getting in the mood to write again so I understand how you are, too.
Ramping down from the holidays takes a while.
I’m thinking of cancelling Christmas in 2010.
Christmas always sneaks up on me and stresses me out big time.
Even my girlfriend who lives in Juneau said that Thanksgiving was the better holiday because you have the
festive meal and no stress related to buying presents for everyone and his brother.

I did think it was funny when you mentioned the Japanese way of being indebted to people who do a favor
or kindness for you.
I know I still owe you and Elsie for going overboard sending us more than was necessary.
That Japanese custom must still be ingrained in me,too, because I refused to take a class from the school
principal because I didn’t like him or respect him.
If he taught me something, I knew I would owe my “sensei” a debt of gratitude for the rest of my life and I
couldn’t bear the thought of having to do that for that weasel of a man.

I’m sending my Las Vegas sister the Korean soap opera DVDs.
She met a couple from Kohala, Hawaii who moved to the mainland years ago and are just now learning to
appreciate their Japanese heritage.
They are hooked on the Musashi movies.
She said that they just watch the Japanese movies and forget to do their chores everyday.
They were interested in the six USPS small flat rate boxes of VHS tapes that I have of SOKO GA SHIRITAI,
DESTINATION DISCOVERY, HAGURE KENJI and other KIKU television shows that my brother recorded
for our mom and sisters.
I’m sure they will love the Korean soaps, too, with the sub-titles.
My sister, Rosie, will return them to you.
Must stop and make an order for 10 office chairs, 2 cupboards and 3 printers.
Not that we’ll get them all.
The District Office just said to make a WISH LIST (can’t get away from Christmas even at work).
It depends on whether or not BING at OMB will give us the money.
Just joking, Betty.
Does your calculator at work even have enough spaces for trillions of dollars?

Did you ever find a SPAM musubi form to send to BING?
Bye for now.

I can't make it to Vegas, still raising two small children.
For my items to be posted, it's hard because every weapon made of Koa wood is not the same.
All koa wood does not look the same, and is anyone willing to spend between $30.00 to $300.00 for a curly koa weapon.
If the classmates let me know, I will bring them.

I only need to put the tiger shark teeth on.
I will try to send a picture of it to Hal, and he can send it to all of you.

Hello Harold,
Yes, I am that Sharon!
I got married recently so my name is now Sharon Kazel.
I am interested in the reunions but I did not see the information you mentioned on your website - just pictures.
Please give Pearl my name and have her send info about the reunions.

Hi Sharon,

If you're the Sharon LaTraille that was a classmate at Kaimuki High School, class of 1960, you will be interested in the link below:
You were noted by Pearl (Shimooka) Mori, the reunion committee secretary, as one of those on the 'unable to locate' list.

It's a link to photos of several of our past reunions and other miscellaneous photos and blogs related to our class.

We are having our 50th reunion(s) this year in Honolulu on April the 17th and in Las Vegas on October 10th.
There are more details on the reunion photo website.

Hopefully I have the right Sharon, apologies in advance if you aren't.

Seda, hopefully you, Elsie and the others can work out the craft fair in both Honolulu and Las Vegas.
Either way, all will have had good exposure for their crafts on this blog and the website.

Mahalo Pamela... pulled pork... mmm... keep those recipes coming folks, until the cookbook committee tells us to stop.

S. Cal classmates (and N. Cal too I suppose), contact me or Pearl Shimooka Mori for Jane Mock's email or phone number.

Elsie, pics can be sent to me or Carl... you're right, Nuk's messages are usually all in one paragraph... but then some of
our classmates' messages have been almost all in one sentence... no mattah... I usually chop 'em up to fit ; )

Hi, Hal and Carl: Thanks for the feedback re: amount of photos.
I will send some today, making sure that I don’t send pics of items already sold.
My husb is trying to teach me how to consolidate, catalog, etc via Adobe photoshop, hoping to “correctly” send you smaller sizes
of pics on pages with item number, description and price on each.
You are absolutely right about too many pages, because I too, get bored after about the 3rd page.
BTW, Carl, should I send these pics to Hal directly?
You guys are so great!!
Jean-san: I’ve been so busy with visitors and have been home-bound dog sitting my sister’s dog (including my 2) till next Weds.
Finally got the Emperor’s General back and on my kitchen table ready to mail with “Departures”.
Hope you and Boyd are keeping warm.
Think of you whenever I see heavy snowstorms on CNN.
(I’m trying to copy Nuk….no paragraphs needed on emails).

The email messages below have been posted for the info-benefit of other potential craft-fair/fund-raiser participants...
sellers and buyers.

Thanks Bing for another ono-licious sounding recipe... again, though the 31st is the indicated deadline for cookbook
recipes, I'm sure the committee could accomodate more recipes for a short while longer... send them over.

Carl, Elsie, Seda, Jean,

Actually, the amount of pics doesn't matter... it's the total size of all the pics that I have to balance within my account's allotment.
Thus far though, I should have more than enough room for whatever all four of you might come up with.
As for others coming on board, there are a few simple things I can do to ensure enough space for them.
Bottom line, quantity should be no problem... except possibly for the potential purchaser perusing the paraphernalia.
( Eh Jean, how you like that alliteration ; )
I know when I look at a catalog, if it starts to become too long, I soon become disinterested in continuing... not that our classmates
have the same short attention span as I do, but still something to consider.
On the reunion website pages for instance, I have 12 to 16 pics per page... I'm guessing attention will start to waver just about the
2nd or 3rd page... are we talking about more pics than that ? ( 12 - 16 pics per page, 2 to 3 pages or more )
If not, then I see no problem at all.

In the catalog pages, I have one image that reads ' CY / JNW item descriptions and details '... those are actually blog images much
like the ones for the ' 50 years - Memories... ', so full descriptions can also be placed in there... might be better than just on the
emails since once emails are read, most will not read them again.
At the moment those images are ' blank ' but I'll be placing some example descriptions/details shortly for you all to look at, critique,
and provide suggestions.

Hi, Carl:
Ok, I’ll try to consolidate pics with description and email you a few tomorrow…. (you have such great solutions).
Also, is it possible to add a few more pics later?
Another suggestion you offer re: sharing reception table sounds great (if we don’t have too many sellers).
Because, you’ll have to include sale of cookbooks, etc. too.
You may have to have two or several tables (if room can accommodate).
In any event, no sales pitch required, lol.
Your attitude and ideas are so refreshing!
This catalog idea is so unique and have to admit, we sure have such great minds in our class…..
also really getting better and such fun as we are progressing.
Mahalo, Elsie T.
BTW, Seda being there in Hon. early will be a great help.

Hi Elsie,
As for pics, if you have a lot of items, maybe you could consolidate some into various group
(i.e.; rings, ear rings, necklace, etc.) to cut down on the amount of pics.
And on each pic, you can label each item in the pic.
If you are not able to do this with your computer, send me your pictures to me and I'll number label them
and I'll send them back to you for identification on each item.
Or, I could merge pictures into one.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the total amount of pictures since Hal will manage them somehow.
I have 3 items and Jean will also have 3 items.
Another idea I have, if worst comes to not having other sellers, I would imagine just adding a couple tables
to the reception table for you and Seda.
I had plan on just being at the reception table and show the 3 items or just have it on display there and
to contact me if interested.
This way a picture is worth more then trying to make a sales pitch.
Time is clicking, just smile and have fun. Life is too short.

Hi, Carl….Thank you so much for your input!!
It didn’t seem real that so many would have been interested in the craft fair, but according to Pearl,
she said 17 for Hon. and 6 for LV.
In any event, setting up the craft fair isn’t that difficult, just that someone does have to coordinate the event.
Normally, rental of the space would have to be determined, then prorating the cost to each crafter,
i.e. $20-40 for each table.
I’ll be willing to coordinate the LV event, if it happens.
I’ve already reported to Pearl that the Social Club (Main Street) will not be able to accommodate craft tables.
It is a small room and according to Kathy Nemoto (events coordinator), she layed out the room with tables for
150 people (max), plus reception (check-in) tables and very small area left for entertainment
(musicians – Kiki and her group), so not optimistic about the craft fair in LV.
Checked out the preview website….logos look great and didn’t realize Jean would be selling tote bags too.
It will really be a nice catalog when done.
Seda and I better start moving in sending some pics of our items.
BTW, how many maximum pics are being allowed?
Unless Pearl gives you names of interested crafters, no way of knowing how to contact except hoping that
they are reading reunion blogs.
Thanks again for your help and look forward to hearing from you again. Elsie T.

Hello Elsie,
You know, I really don't know how big this project will be but I'm just trying to get involved with some aspect of the reunion since
it really should be something special.
Since I don't have any experience with craft fairs and even reunion activities, I found my idea of coming up with medallion to
commemorate our 50th reunion as a starter.
Now of course, the patch and decal.
Then Jean got in touch with me and the idea of selling online would help her with her items.
And now Hal came up with establishing a catalog and web site for our items.
All this seems so simple at that time and the interest just picked up.
As I mentioned to Seda, I really don't think that we have 17 people interested in selling so we'll see.
BTW, just received an email from Hal with a link to the catalog he has started.
He has the photo of my patch and Jean's t-shirts that I receive today.
Anyway, if I can be of any assistance just let me know.
We do need someone with experience to do a lot of leg work just to find a place and handle all the logistics for a Honolulu craft fair.
Now, if you are volunteering to set something up in Las Vegas, it might work.
I'll keep in touch.
Thanks for writing.
