Here is what turned out to be my favorite quotation as it seemed to fit the situation-
"As I progressed further with my project, it became obvious that it was really unimportant where I chose to photograph. The particular place simply provided an excuse to produce work . . . you can only see what you are ready to see - what mirrors your mind at that particular time." ~ George Tice
LESSONS LEARNED: I am not very good when it comes to working with wood. I had to stain the box and affix various elements. That was tough for a total non-woodworker.
EXTRA ELEMENTS: I lined the box with a page from a 1956 Life Magazine. It was really a teaser for their next weekly magazine devoted entirely to "An American Woman". They interviewed a number of women of the times (e.g., Margaret Mead) and created a special issue. In discussing what was included they talked about women trying to do it all - career, home and family, husband, and other. Guess we have not progressed too far. Let's see, in 1956 I was 14 years old and had no clue what was ahead as a woman in the ensuing decades. It was fun to find this article and be able to use it. The woman and children shown look very much like the women of today.
