Workspace and Tools

Here is what turned out to be my favorite quotation as it seemed to fit the situation-
"As I progressed further with my project, it became obvious that it was really unimportant where I chose to photograph. The particular place simply provided an excuse to produce work . . . you can only see what you are ready to see - what mirrors your mind at that particular time." ~ George Tice

LESSONS LEARNED: I am not very good when it comes to working with wood. I had to stain the box and affix various elements. That was tough for a total non-woodworker.

EXTRA ELEMENTS: I lined the box with a page from a 1956 Life Magazine. It was really a teaser for their next weekly magazine devoted entirely to "An American Woman". They interviewed a number of women of the times (e.g., Margaret Mead) and created a special issue. In discussing what was included they talked about women trying to do it all - career, home and family, husband, and other. Guess we have not progressed too far. Let's see, in 1956 I was 14 years old and had no clue what was ahead as a woman in the ensuing decades. It was fun to find this article and be able to use it. The woman and children shown look very much like the women of today.

a dynamic and engaging workspace...of course the women of '56 looked like those of today...people haven't changed, although attitudes and awareness has...and those have broadened considerably...when it comes to producing art...gender is no longer relevant...you don't have to look further than the small world of pbase to confirm that...have no doubts Rene...your work compares very well with most on this photosite...both sensitive, decisive, and made with admirable expertise....stick to your path...you don't have to bow to anyone
