La Voulte Jurassic

One of three celebrated exceptionally preserved faunas in which soft tissue was replaced by pyrite. The other two are the Ordovician of New York State and the Devonian slates near Bundenbach in Germany.

The mudstones and marls of La Voulte sur-Rhône (Ardèche, France), a locality of Early Callovian age (koenigi Zone), have yielded a diverse and exceptionally well-preserved pyritized marine fauna.
Here I show examples of cephalopods (vampyropods), crustaceans (decapods), echinoderms (ophiuroids), worms (including sipunculids) and molluscs (gastropods and bivalves).
I have one single specimen in which all of the groups mentioned in the previous sentence can be seen, some as very small individuals.
