Volchovia volborthi (Ophiocistioidea), Kunda Horiz, Darriwilian, Lower Ordovician, Lava River, E of St Petersburg region, Russia

75 mm across.

Smith & Savill (2001) wrote of Volchovia, "The morphology of Volchovia is almost completely unknown. All three species of Volchovia have been described from aboral surfaces only, and there is as yet no convincing evidence that they are true ophiocistioids. Volchovia is clearly an eleutherozoan and very different from Bromidechinus, but a more precise placement of this taxon must await description of better material."
