Derbyshire Minerals

Derbyshire is famed in mineralogical circles for its late 18th century to mid 19th century phosgenites and matlockites with associated anglesite from the Wirksworth-Cromford district. Some fine examples are shown below.

Significant finds of interesting mineral species were made in the Whitwell Quarry (in Permian magnesian limestone) during the 1980s from the Park Hall Fault. The fault zone contained mixed lead and vanadium mineralisation (see: http://www.steetleyminerals.com/cms.php?id_cms=14 ). The rare minerals phosphohedyphane, leadhillite, hydrocerussite, lanarkite, vanadinite, descloizite and mattheddleite from this occurrence are shown here.
