This temple, built in the 15th century, is dedicated to Abinatha, the first of the 24 tirthankara worshiped by the Jains. It is the largest and Jain sanctuary in India and one of the five most sacred. Jain merchants amassed vast fortunes in medieval times, wealth that is reflected in the ornate elegance of the temple.
