Driving in India is both an art and a skill which, to be successful, must be combined with a strong sense of clairvoyance. The saving grace, as compared to western countries, is that everything happens in slow motion.
As often happens in India, aggressive drivers try to negatiate spaces too small for their vehicles.
Any space that has been left unoccupied will be rapidly filled with smaller vehicles... tuk-tuks, motorcycles, bicycles, etc... and people on foot!
