Livingstone Town
Zambia
At one time Livingstone Town had a thriving Jewish population, active in ranching, foundries and politics. Over time most of the population emigrated from Zambia (Rhodesia) or moved to Lusaka until few remained in Livingstone. Before the last of them left, they gave their synagogue to the Christian population to use for worship and a community center. The Star of David was retained as a symbol of thanks and respect.
