Debby and I traveled to Bhutan, The Land of the Thunder Dragon, in October 2011. We timed our trip to coincide with the religious festival, or tshechu in the capital city of Thimphu. Unknown to us at the time we planned the trip, a royal wedding would take place during our visit. The country was decorated almost everywhere we went in anticipation of the post-wedding tour and associated celebrations. Many thanks to Geographic Expeditions for arranging a most enjoyable and enlightening trip and, most of all, a big thank you to Tshering Dorji, our guide, for his knowledge, sense of humor and exceptional flexibility during our journey. It was definitely one of our best travel experiences.

The Gallery is organized as a travelogue, corresponding to the major geographical areas we visited. The images of the iconic Tiger's Nest monastery (Taktsang Goempa) were taken by Tshering using my camera. A knee injury prevented my participation.
