In September of 2006 The Conservancy of Southwest Florida received a litter of Flying Squirrel whose tree had been cut down in a residential area. Arriving in between 14-17 grams, the Conservancy's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center fed and cared for them until they had reached adult weight and were determined to be able to survive on their own in the wild. Working with the local park service of Naples, Fl suitable habitat and living quarters were arranged. This group was successfully released late in November 2006 a few days before Thanksgiving.
