La Boca is a neighborhood of Buenos Aires that was originally inhabited by Italians. They were very poor, but made the neighborhood cheerful by painting everything in bright colors. It is said that the tango was born in the streets of La Boca and to this day, instead of the usual assortment of street performers you are much more likely to see a heartwrenching, smoldering tango in the streets. If you prefer a tango with dinner, there are innumerable restaurants with tango shows. By day La Boca is a tourist attraction, by night it becomes a little more seedy and dangerous...it's worth the show, but go with a local.
