floating isles of the uros

I chose sepia for this gallery because the whole thing was a bit of a step back through time. The Uros were a people that fled into Lake Titikaka (bordering Bolivia and Peru) to get away from the Incas and finally from the Spanish. They built their islands of reeds, in fact their entire lives were made of reeds: the boats, their houses, their islands and even their food. Today things are a bit more modern and you see the occasional TV antennae and there are generators on the islands, some of which can be easily toured but it remains something very unique in the world.
