I lead this bird walk at Normandale Community College as a MN Master Naturalist Volunteer, for their Staff Development Day. We saw a robin, some juncos, red-winged black birds, crows, house sparrows and we heard cardinals and blue jays. Topics we discussed included:
-The MN Master Naturalist program
-Definition and impact of invasive species (I also pointed out some buckthorn that we saw).
-Migration with the juncos and blackbirds, and also discussed hummingbirds and monarch butterflies
-The intelligence of corvids,
-Caching behavior of chickadees and blue jays
-Courtship behavior, since we saw the robin singing, and heard cardinals and chickadees. I mentioned that woodpeckers drum since they can't sing
-Shorebirds that we would see soon in the area, and I told them about the heron rookery at N. Mississippi Regional park
