I was sad that the dead tree fell over in the storm, because they are very beneficial to birds. I'm not sure what kind of tree it was. All of the green here is from the overgrown plants that surrounded the tree. There was a very persistent woody vine growing all over the place, and a lot of buckthorn, and other wildly growing trees here. Since this is in the summer, the photo gives a better idea of just how badly overgrown the area was. If you look carefully toward the bottom of the dead tree trunk, you can just barely see two short vertical posts standing. These must have had something to do with telephone or electrical wire. They make a good reference point for later photos. The view here is toward the southeast, and the privacy fence toward the right of the photo is the edge of the yard. The Minnesota river is down the bluff, about 1/2 mile south.
