In World War I, the Gallipoli Peninsula was the sight of one of the first amphibious landings and many soldiers,
both British Expeditionary and Turkish, were killed in the resulting stalemate. There were many military cemeteries
on this mountainous Peninsula and we found boats, clay water jugs, grenades, and other articles of war
in the surrounding waters. The Turkish leader was Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.
We did not find Serjeant Beaton.
