Charcoal ovens
Abandoned oven, usually full of snakes
Looking up in an old oven.
The yard forman, crew boss and myself.
Lots of ovens
Something out of the Wizard of OZ
All loading and unloading done by hand.
Filling one of the ovens
stacked on end, clear to the top.
Comimg out for more wood.
It takes 2 days to fill the oven.
Hard working crew ( not the guy in red)
Izidoro my translator and the boys.
Oven temperature used for making charcoal.
It takes 9 days of burning slowly to make the wood into charcoal.
The end product. Charcoal is worth $10/cubic meter
The finished charcoal must be kept dry.
