Beirado, is across the Jari river from Monte Dourado. A dirty, lawless town. It's built on stilts with slats about 2 inches apart to walk on. There are no roads or cars. When they are through with something it gets thrown down and ends up on the banks of the Jari river. And once or twice a day it gets washed away. The tide in the Atlantic Ocean, 400 miles away affects the flow of the river. When the tide comes in,the river seems to back up, or stand still.
