While walking up a canyon in the Lake Mead Nat'l Wildlife Area close to the Colorado River's Lake Mohave, we came across a Mohave Rattlesnake. It had 3 - 4 black rings around its tail. The coloring of the snake was an orange/red sort of dull color. I suppose it was a younger snake but it had at least 6 rattles. About 36" long.
My question is: Was it a version of the MOhave Rattlesnake? I have seen Mohave King Snakes in the past that were a little brighter orange/red. We viewed it up and close and it was very slow moving not interested in us.
Would love your comments.
