This is a strange place to visit. Rubbish city as it's known is in a Christian section of Cairo. Most of Cairo is fairly dirty but this place is REALLY dirty. A large amount of the rubbish Cairo generates ends up here where it is sorted by hand and recycled. Amongst it all is a Christian mission looking after girls who have been on the street. They recycle paper and make cards, pictures and other paper products. Above the rubbish they also have a quite amazing Christian church that seats about 10,000! Many statues around as well. A little off the main tourist trail of pyramids and museums but worth the effort.
My goodness, Gary! It's incredible! In the first place I hardly ever see any photos on the net made here in Al-Muqattam. In the second place I never see anyone I ever photographed again on other photogrpahers work:-) Now I do though... the woman you shot in the last couple of pictures is also in one of my shots of Egypt :-) I was there last January in their paper factory and I made some shots as well, she was willing to pose for me, holding her (or a colleagues) child... take a look if you want... Tace care! -Menno
